One of the longest-running series of tournaments on the Sunshine Tour is the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, this year presented by Samsung. Each tournament of the series of six carries a prize-fund of R600,000, and the final is set for Pezula Golf Club on October 29. The theme of the tournaments this year is ‘Evolution’ – of the game, of equipment, of rules, and of players.
Vaal de Grace Golf Estate is situated on an island in the middle of the Vaal River and provides stunning views for those competing on its fairways and greens. Because of its location the course falls midway between the North West Province and Free State and certain holes are set in either province. The Nick Price-designed layout plays at 6711 metres from the tips and tests golfers from tee to green. This will be the first time the Sunshine Tour heads to Vaal de Grace and it forms a part of the Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung. Last year the tour played at Parys Golf Club, but the change of venue has the professionals excited, especially on a layout in the middle of the Vaal River.
The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series will also have a competition within it: It is a cumulative par-three competition – the Ultimate Par-Three Challenge – where the leading 10 players most under par on all the par-threes throughout the series will qualify for a shootout on the Tuesday of the Final, for a prize of R50,000.
The prize fund will be split as follows:
