One of the longest-running series of tournaments on the Sunshine Tour is the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, this year presented by Samsung.  Each tournament of the series of six carries a prize-fund of R600,000, and the final is set for Pezula Golf Club on October 29. The theme of the tournaments this year is ‘Evolution’ – of the game, of equipment, of rules, and of players.

Wild Coast Sun Country Club has played host to some of South Africa’s most prestigious tournaments, including the Nashua Masters. The Robert Trent Jones-designed course is the shortest on the Sunshine Tour rotation. It plays to 5807 metres from the tips and finds its defence in the coastal winds. The relatively short course lies just west of the Indian Ocean and the wind can certainly get blowing. The signature hole is the 13th, which is a par three that is played across a waterfall to a green which is partly hidden by rocks & bush.

The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series will also have a competition within it: It is a cumulative par-three competition – the Ultimate Par-Three Challenge – where the leading 10 players most under par on all the par-threes throughout the series will qualify for a shootout on the Tuesday of the Final, for a prize of R50,000.

The prize fund will be split as follows‎:

  • each qualifying player will receive R2 500
  • the winner of the shootout will receive R25 000
