Wallie Coetsee made six birdies before the turn at the Montagu course at Fancourt and went on to sign for 64 during the second round of the Dimension Data Pro-Am on Friday.
ÂIt was a great start. It was lovely to shoot a little 30 on the front, and the back nine was also good, so it was one of those dream rounds, he said.
The Plettenberg Bay local began the day in a share of 57th, but made four consecutive birdies at the start of his round and never looked back on his way to a share of fifth at the 36-hole mark.
The tournament plays out over four rounds at Fancourt Golf and Country Estate. The professionals play a round at The Links, Outeniqua and Montagu courses before a cut to 65 and those tied on the number. After the cut a final round is played at Montagu.
Coetsee will face the Outeniqua layout tomorrow, a course he has played more than a few times in his 21 years on the Sunshine Tour.
While Englishman Simon Dyson held the lead on 11-under-par, it was clear that Coetsee has come to the R3,75-million tournament with an eye for victory.
ÂItÂs been coming and I just know that this is my year, said Coetsee. ÂThe other players donÂt matter. IÂm just playing my game and IÂm hitting it so good that whatever will be, will be. To be in the lead for Sunday would be nice, and maybe tomorrow IÂll catch up!Â
