WGC Match Play crucial for Van Zyl’s Masters hopes

Jaco SiteThe World Golf Championships – Dell Match Play starts on Wednesday 23rd March, and if Jaco Van Zyl produces a solid showing, he could be off to the 80th edition of The Masters.

Van Zyl makes up Group 10 at Austin Country Club, and he will need to overcome the likes of Danny Willett, Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel if he is to progress out of his group. Progressing out of Group 10 will be crucial if he is to move inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking and receive an invite to Augusta National.

Other South Africans in the field include Branden Grace, Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen. Grace is set to square off against the likes of Russell Knox, David Lingmerth and Chris Kirk in Group 11. Meanwhile, Schwartzel will need to be at his best to progress out of Group 15 as he will take on Brandt Snedeker, Danny Lee and Charley Hoffman. Louis Oosthuizen will play against Any Sullivan, Bernd Wiesberger and Matt Jones in Group 16.

Van Zyl will be heading into the event with high spirits thanks to his latest run of form. In his last five Sunshine Tour events he has finished inside the top 10 four times, including a win at the Eye of Africa PGA Championship. As a result, all four South Africans in the field have won on either The European Tour, PGA Tour or Sunshine Tour.

A win at the World Golf Championships –Dell Match Play will be something all four South Africans will be hopeful of achieving.
