Willett donates prize money to charity

Golf - 2015 Nedbank Golf Challenge - Christmas lights switch on & Boma braai - Sun City - South AfricaDanny Willett has donated R100 000 of his Nedbank Golf Challenge prize money to the Klopper family through the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Willett was 2014’s Nedbank Golf Challenge champion, and joined Sune Klopper in the traditional switching on of the Sun City Christmas lights on 2 December as part of the build up to the tournament.

Sune is only four years old and has been diagnosed with a rare kidney cancer, Wilms Tumour. Recently, the family was notified that the chemotherapy is not working, however this has never stopped Sune from having fun with her twin sister Sunel on her dream jungle gym from the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

“I met Sune and the Klopper family at the Christmas light ceremony and this brief meeting had a profound impact on me and my family. As professional golfers we are fortunate to lead privileged lives and we’re in a position to give back,” says Willett.

The money will be placed into a family trust to help the Klopper’s pay for the mounting doctors’ bills and to ensure this festive season is a memorable one.

“One of the most important things for us this year is to make this Christmas one of the best we ever had and to spend time with our family, cherishing every moment. We are overwhelmed by Danny’s generosity,” said the Kloppers.
