Sefatsa eyes strong RAM Cape Town Open finish

Member of Gary Player Class Teboho Sefatsa booked himself a spot in the weekend field of the RAM Cape Town Open – his first cut in nine months – after he shot two-under-par in round two to share 28th on five-under for the week at Royal Cape Golf Club on Friday.

“It was a steady round. It was quite steady,” he said about his round. “I was level par through three and I got to the par-five fifth hole and I made a birdie there. I hit a couple of bad shots, but I recovered very well. So, I kept the round going. I didn’t putt my best, but I just kept it going.

“The course played very well. It’s a true test for me, you have to shape your shots and position them, you know. It is an all-round test. You have to hit it well off the tee, hit your second shot well and putt well. Big up to the Royal Cape for hosting us.”

The 2012 BMG Classic winner is not planning to change much on his game plan in the weekend. “I will just do what I have done in the past two days,” he said. “I will just play one shot at a time, one hole at a time and just stick to the task.”

The 35-year-old last made the cut at the Sun City Challenge in June of last year and thereafter he suffered nine missed-cuts. He feels that things are getting better for him this week. “I did not do any changes, really, on my game. I just putted well for a change. I think that is where my game is at the moment. On ball striking, I am pretty sound and it was just the putting that was letting me down, but I have putted well for two days. I feel I can continue to the next round and it looks good.”

With a few events left before the end of the season, Sefatsa who currently occupies position 132nd on the Order of Merit, won’t put much pressure on himself to make a projection of where he wants to finish. “I am just playing one tournament at a time and I focus on one tournament. I give it my best shot and see where the chips lay at the end of the season and that’s about it.”
